С большой долей вероятности можно сказать, что выражение silver lining появилась благодаря Джону Мильтону, английскому поэту, мыслителю и политическому деятелю 17 века. Мильтон использовал фразеологизм в пьесе-маске «Комус», которая была представлена в 1634 году в замке Ладлоу.
