История происхождения существительного edutainment

Термин edutainment образован посредством слияния двух английских существительных: education (образование) и entertainment (развлечение). Edutainment – пример лексической контаминации (blending), когда при соединении двух слов в одно, новое слово объединяет значения обоих слов-дериватов.

Впервые слово edutainment прозвучало в 1954 году из уст Уолта Диснея по отношению к многосерийному документальному фильму о дикой природе True-life adventure. Пару десятилетий спустя в 1973 году Роберт Хейман, создавая серию документальных фильмов для National Geographic, использовал для их описания термин edutainment.

Позднее от существительного edutainment был образован глагол – edutain.
