Когда на улице ветрено и холодно, хочется тепла и уюта. Забраться под теплый плед, устроиться перед камином, ну или устроиться перед телевизором с кружкой горячего чая или какао. В английском языке для теплых и уютных вещей и моментов, которые вызывают положительные эмоции и дарят приятные ощущения, существует идиома (as) warm as toast.

Фраза warm as toast, которая переводится на русский язык «очень теплый и уютный» впервые была использована в английской газете The Berkshire Chronicle. В публикации приводился список новых на тот момент сравнений.

As blind as a bat—as deaf as a post,
As cool as a cucumber—warm as a toast;
As flat as a flounder—as round as a ball,
As blunt as a hammer—as sharp as an awl;

Но возникла эта идиома гораздо раньше, в первой половине 15 века, хотя тогда фраза звучала as hot as toast. Один из первых примеров использования фразы был найден в поваренной книге, изданной в 1430 году.
Также идиому можно найти в произведении английского поэта и драматурга Джона Хейвуда.
